In April 2021, so many of you joined us to celebrate the amazing achievements of Captain Sir Tom and fundraise for The Captain Tom Foundation or a charity of your choice

You helped us ensure Captain Tom’s legacy continues to live on

On 6 April 2020, Captain Tom Moore set out round his garden to thank our NHS heroes. One hundred laps later, he’d raised an incredible £38.9 million for the NHS - distributed by NHS Charities Together.

His simple message of hope – “Tomorrow will be a good day” – inspired millions around the world and brought comfort and joy to so many during the pandemic.

Friday 30 April would have been his 101st birthday and to honour him and his amazing achievements, we invited everyone, of all ages and abilities, to take part in the Captain Tom 100.

Watch some of our friends take on their challenge below…

We were blown away by the extraordinary and truly inspiring feats that were accomplished by our super-star fundraisers!

So many of you took on such incredible challenges, we had to create a whole new page to celebrate your amazing achievements!

How it worked

Everyone was invited to take on a challenge around the number 100.

  • Think up your 100 challenge. It can be anything you like – from walking 100 metres to baking 100 cakes or writing 100 letters

  • Take on your 100 at a time that works for you

  • Fundraise or donate to The Captain Tom Foundation or a charity of your choice

  • Share your 100 on social media using #CaptainTom100

Over 1,200 charities took part

The campaign raised over £1.3million for charity

Inspiring hope where it is needed most

The nation’s mental health has been damaged significantly by the pandemic. This had a disproportionate impact on younger people and the disadvantaged and The Foundation wanted to help as much as we could.

In 2021, we used our activity around Captain Tom 100 to support three charities, The Mix, Young Minds and Place2Be, who are doing incredible work to support young people’s mental health as we emerged from the pandemic.

As well as using our platform to highlight the critical work they do, we used the funds raised through the Captain Tom 100 campaign to give each of the three charities a grant to enable them to scale up their services to meet the increased demand experienced following the pandemic. A percentage of donations was also retained by The Foundation to cover the costs of the campaign.

Captain Tom 100 Merchandise

The official Captain Tom 100 t-shirts are still available and make the perfect outfit for almost any 100 challenge.

With thanks to our friends…
